A suspected notorious armed robber, who has been terrorising villagers and business people using an AK47 rifle in Masvingo has finally been arrested.

Sam Mutava (28) has since appeared in court facing five counts of robbery and one of murder.

Prosecutor, Innocent Mbambo told the court that on 25 January this year, Mutava connivance with Tafadzwa Jeke and George Mashiri, who are still at large, approached the complainant Liliosa Mugabe at a bar located at Sipambi business centre armed with an AK 47 rifle.

Upon arrival, the trio reportedly fired eight shots to instill fear in the complainant, before demanding cash and cellphones.

They were, however,  disturbed by the complainant’s boyfriend which led them to flee without taking anything.

The court also heard that five days later, the trio again ambushed Nyungu Bottle Store in Masvingo, where they allegedly used the same tactic to rob the bar lady, Sostina Murivavi of $300 and a cellphone.

The trio was not done as they pounced on Mary Chikwenhere’s shop before fatally stabbing her after she failed to comply with their orders.

The trio managed to get away with an amplifier, some beers and soft drinks.

Mutava pleaded not guilty to all counts and was remanded in custody to 16 September for trial.
