The African Union Extra Ordinary Summit begins this morning in Addis Ababa with the Libyan crisis top on the agenda as well as other security issues in Africa.Â
The Head of State and Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe will join other continental leaders in coming up with an African solution to the aggression on Libya as non-Africans have hijacked the North African country’s peace process.
Indications are that discussions will be based on the decision taken by the special committee of the African Union while the continental leaders will prepare a unanimous draft for speeding up an immediate stop to the aggression in Libya.
President Mugabe is on record on saying the event in North Africa demonstrates the reversal of freedom attained by African states through various struggles.
Libya has been mired with conflicts that saw Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s forces clash against opposition rebels since the eruption of anti-government protests in mid-February this year.
