women soccer.jpgA sports tournament to commemorate Unity Day was held in Harare’s Hatcliffe suburb where Hatcliffe Stars beat Old Timers in the finals.

The community celebrated Unity Day in style with the hosting of the 2nd edition of the J. Zvandasara Unity Tournament.

Hatcliffe Stars laboured to a 2-nil victory over Old timers in a closely contested final that had to be decided in extra-time.

Tournament sponsor,Justice Zvandasara and event organiser, Costa Nzombe, both expressed satisfaction with the successful hosting of the 2nd edition of an event which comprised of men’s and women’s football as well as pool game.

Former Black Rhinos player, Levy Mushayambodza who was popularly known as “shoes” emphasised the significance of such events in nurturing talent that lies in abundance.

The men’s football tournament which was the major highlight saw 14 teams from the Harare North constituency participating.

The tournament which ran for one and a half month, attracted teams from as far as Chishawasha and Mount Pleasant.

The tournament which aims to unify the Hatcliffe community, saw Wingate Stars beating Extension stars in the women’s football final.

 

Pool game is another sporting discipline which featured at the sporting extravaganza.
