Members of the security forces have been urged to continue safeguarding national interests to ensure that normalcy continues to prevail.
The remarks come in the wake of recent terror attacks spearheaded by external forces using opposition personnel.
Lieutenant Colonel Alison Chicha has been handed over reigns as the Commanding Officer of 2-1 Reserve Force Battalion, taking over from Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Kachingwe at Chitekedza Barracks in Mt Darwin.
The exchange process which was witnessed by Commander 2 Infantry Brigade Brigadier General Fidelis Mhonda drew interest from across the political divide and various stakeholders in the business fraternity.
In his farewell remarks, Lieutenant Colonel Kachingwe urged the unit to strive for excellence in ensuring the nation fight both internal and external adversaries.
“I want to urge you to continue with the same spirit as you work with Lieutenant Colonel Alison Chicha to fulfil your constitutional mandate of providing peace and security to our nation as we jealously safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this beloved country called Zimbabwe,” he said.
praised his predecessor for a sterling job and opened his arms to stakeholders to count on his services for peaceful execution of duties.
“As I begin my tour of duty, I want to assure you that I will discharge my duties meeting the confines of the nation with diligence, honesty, loyalty and discipline required in the organisation. Let me assure you as our stakeholders that you are free as well to come to us as your security guarantors to request for assistance which I henceforth, declare open,” Lieutenant Colonel Chicha said.
Witnesses were given a rare treat through music and various drills displayed by the members of 2-1 Reserve Force Battalion Chitekedza Barracks.
