ashford mamelodi.jpgFIFA Development Officer for East and Southern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi has emphasized the need to strengthen the ZIFA secretariat to enable it to effectively deliver on a day to day basis.

The Zimbabwe Football Association is now a full recipient of many FIFA programmes, of which one is Goal Performance which seeks to improve the professional standing of the local football mother body.

FIFA Development Officer for East and Southern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi says while significant progress has been made in this regard, it is however imperative to build on this positive development and take things to a higher dimension.

“One of the things I’m concerned about is the need to strengthen the secretariat since it’s the engine room of ZIFA. We need a secretariat that will deliver on a day to day basis with the executive committee meeting once in a while to make decisions.” said Mamelodi.

Despite the need to establish a strong ZIFA secretariat, Mamelodi nevertheless believes other facets related to the development of the local game are progressing well.

Mamelodi was in the country as part of the FIFA delegation during the one day stop over by the president of the world football mother body, Sepp Blatter.

He left the country on Wednesday morning.
