Zimbabwe has been reminded of the need to strengthen the domestic tourism promotion drive in order to unlock the full potential of the industry.

Optimism abound that the tourism sector can attract over 2.5 million tourists in 2018 and the recently appointed Domestic Tourism Ambassador, popular television personality Dr Rebecca Chisamba said there is need to inculcate the culture of travelling among the local population. She made the remarks while on a familiarisation tour of the Victoria Falls where she paid tribute to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) for their efforts in promoting domestic tourism.

“We had a great time here in the destination of Victoria Falls and we feel as a country that we have a lot to benefit from promotion of domestic tourism. Let us travel as Zimbaweans and explore the beauty we have,” she said.

During the tour, the tourism ambassador indulged in various activities which are synonymous with the country’s premier tourists destination Victoria Falls which include helicopter flight above the majestic waterfall, bungee jump, crocodile cage dive and game drive.

Meanwhile, a group of high profile soccer legends who are in the country as part of efforts to market destination Victoria Falls.

According to the team, Zimbabwe has the potential to top tourism destination in the world if well marketed.

Zimbabwe’s tourism industry continues on a rebound with Victoria Falls registering a strong performance during the first quarter of the year as evidenced by a surge in arrivals and room occupancy.
