Hartman House primary school is a hive of activity this week, hosting the Stragglers Smashing Cricket T-20 Tournament which entered day two this Tuesday with almost 400 participants.
Schools sport is indeed laying the foundation for the discovery of national talents.
The annual Stragglers Cricket Week, with its massive enrolment, is shaping the future for cricket as organisers group students according to teams of cricket playing countries so as to inspire them to take the game seriously.
“Such tournaments are what the nation needs to grow the sport,” said Ian Tinkler, one of the organisers.
A fortnight ago, a mock cricket world cup was held at Alex Sports Club in Harare as part of efforts to inspire the young cricketers.
