Four families were left homeless, while property worth thousands of dollars was destroyed at Harare Central Prisons old camp following a storm in the capital this evening.
Four blocks of flats had their roofs blown away by the heavy downpour which was accompanied by strong winds.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Officer Commanding Harare Metropolitan Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Nobert Chomurenga said alternative accommodation has already been found for the affected families.
“We will also start repair works tomorrow,” he added.
The storm only lasted for 30 minutes but destroyed property worth thousands including cars.
While for many, the rains might have come as a blessing, however for the affected families at Harare Central Prison old camp, the 30 minutes that the rains lasted could be described as half an hour of torture as many were left traumatised.
