Government ministries have been called upon to steer public policy frameworks and strategies that create a conducive environment for significant investments in the country.

The Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement, Rtd Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri said the agricultural sector plays a pivotal role in the economy and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals on food security by 2030, adding that the key to achieving these goals lies with government ministries and how they steer public policy frameworks and strategies,

“In Zimbabwe, agriculture plays a key role in economic development. It is also key for the country attaining an upper middle economy status by 2030. There is therefore a compelling need for agricultural policies to attract meaningful investment in the sector given the changes that have been brought by the agrarian reforms that remarkably altered the structure of farms production systems, markets and labour relations,” he said.

Parastatals under the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement have been warned against incompetence with emphasis being put on the need for their positive contributions to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.

The ministry is holding a four days strategic planning meeting in Mutare where various departments and parastatals under the ministry are working on a 5-year strategic plan.
