Statement on the passing of ZBC Diplomatic Correspondent Janet Munyaka

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation wishes to announce the tragic passing of veteran journalist and ZBC Diplomatic Correspondent Janet Munyaka (nee Sajeni) who succumbed to Covid-19, this Saturday evening 5 December 2020 at St Anne’s Hospital in Harare.

Janet was born on the 6th of May 1972. She studied at the Harare Polytechnic where she attained a Diploma in Mass Communication. She joined the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation in January 2000 as a production assistant and then a producer for Nhau / Indaba where she soon became a reader of Nhau/ Inbada

Janet then became a Municipal correspondent within the news department. She changed roles to become the Health Correspondent, which saw her covering critical health stories in Zimbabwe.

She became Diplomatic Correspondent within the News Department, a position she held until the time of her untimely death. Janet was due to graduate yesterday, the 4th of December 2020 at the University of Zimbabwe with a Master of Science Degree in International Relations.

Janet was a dedicated and professional journalist who was loved and respected by peers in the media industry. She was friend to many at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and was always ready to offer help and support to those that needed it. She will be sorely missed.

The ZBC Board, Management and staff extend our deepest condolences to Janet’s husband, four children and family at this very difficult time.
