For many who appreciate comedy and satire, Stand-up comedy performances using all forms of gestures is now appealing to a wider audience in Zimbabwe. One such play currently running in Harare is Harare Files by comedian Tonderai Munyebvu.Stand up comedy is a comedian form of art performed in front of a live audience or, speaking directly to them.
In most cases performances are filmed for later release or are also shown on television.
The performer is commonly known as a comic, stand up comic, stand up comedian or simply a stand-up. One such comedian is Tonderai Munyebvu who is currently showing his play entitled, Harare Files.
Stand-up performances are usually short, where the comedian recites a fast-paced succession of humorous stories, short jokes or bits in arts language which constitutes to what is called a monologue routine or act. Tonderai Munyebvu uses props, music and sometimes magic tricks to enhance his act.
Stand-up comedy is often performed in clubs, bars, colleges and theater houses.
Munyebvu who has been doing stand-up comedies within and outside the country has been showcasing the play Harare Files as a way of encouraging , identifying and sustaining emerging talents as well as building community participation in the arts.
