Staff motivation at workplace has been cited as key to improve compliance at workplace.
This came out at the closing day of a five-day workshop at ARLAC campus in Harare.
The workshop focused on the role of labour inspection in promoting workplace legal and regulatory compliance.
Participants from ARLAC member countries who attended the workshop acknowledged that labour inspectorate in most African countries are underfunded and understaffed hence compromise delivery.
Guest speaker Kenyan Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mrs Lucy Chelimo said there is need for workers to be protected at workplace and this can be achieved through dialogue and consultations between the workers, employer, worker unions and relevant ministries.
She added that improved labour laws and policies seeks to strengthen and protect both employers and employees.
The five-day workshop was attended by representatives from labour ministries and workers’ unions from Botswana, Malawi, Kenya, Mauritius, Zambia and Zimbabwe among other African countries.
