St Georges College is hosting its annual two day under 16 invitational basketball tournament which has attracted 19 local schools and one international St John’s College from South Africa.
Last year’s winners Mazowe High are not participating this year due to other commitments.
The teams are competing for the Kudzai Nyemba floating trophy and bragging rights for another year.
Teacher-in-charge of basketball Bright Dzuda said the invitational basketball tournament is strictly for players under the age of 16 meant to identify and develop budding talent.
Dzuda said it was difficult to host a tournament of this magnitude because of examinations but expressed hope that it will be a rewarding sporting weekend for the competing teams.
The tournament is being played on a round-robin format during the pool stages while the top two teams from each pool progress to the next round.
Participating local schools include Watershed, CBC, Howard High, Heritage, Petra, Gateway, Eaglesvale, Peterhouse, Falcon, Kyle, Westridge, Prince Edward, St John’s High and St John’s College-Ballantyne Park.
