The Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) has summoned the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) over a host of unresolved issues.
The meeting has been set for Thursday morning.
In what appears to be an attempt by the national sports supreme body, SRC to read the riot act to the football association, Thursday’s meeting is expected to tackle several issues bordering from match fixing, corruption in local football and several unresolved issues.
Though the Asiagate scum will definitely take centre stage, the SRC wants ZIFA to answer why they have failed to submit reports on the COSAFA Women Tournament, the Dynamos –TP Mazembe purported CAF Champions League financial support and the failure to submit Statutory Returns.
The sports body is also accusing ZIFA of a flagrant disregard and breach of protocol on matters regarding tournaments bidding and a serious contempt of authority when it comes to inviting dignitaries for their several matches.
The SRC intends to whip into line ZIFA and its affiliate PSL for failing to remit outstanding levies which have now accumulated to an excess of US$250 000.
The SRC meeting will come on the heels of a ZIFA board meeting set for Wednesday, which is among other things expected to prepare the board ahead of the fire-dousing SRC convergence.
While the riot act will be read, what remains to be seen is whether the meeting will yield any tangible result or will it simply endorse the notion held by many in sport that the SRC is nothing more than a toothless bulldog.
