The Sport and Recreation Commission has given its affiliated member associations until June to submit their national team financial budgets for consideration under the $900 000 government sport development grant.

Sports and Recreation Commission Director General Joseph Muchechetere noted that despite the financial constraints being experienced by the institution, national sports associations are required to submit their budgets in time for consideration in the Treasury Grant.

During the meeting national sports associations were challenged to abide by the SRC regulations on submission of statutory returns as some were reported to have flouted the protocol.

While the demands by the sports controlling body are commendable observers feels the biggest challenge facing local national sports organisations is inadequate sponsorship.

They say given adequate resources sports organisations have the potential to transform themselves into viable entities which can generate their own revenue.
