rural soccer.jpgGoromonzi West Constituency is using two sporting disciplines – football and snooker – to spur unity and discipline among the youths within its community.

It was a hive of activity at the Domboshava Showgrounds where Zanu-PF youths within the Goromonzi West Constituency converged to battle it out in the second round of a youth football social league and snooker.

District Co-ordinating Committee Chairman for Goromonzi, Cde Boniface Mutize applauded the initiative, describing it as a platform for educating youths about the African values.

“The initiative is meant to instill a sense of patriotism amongst the youths as the sports gatherings afford them an opportunity to discuss the importance of guarding against ethos of the party,” Cde Mutize said.

One of the youths, Israel Chakanyuka, who coaches Northern Stars Pool Club, acknowledged how the medium of sport is bringing unity and discipline within the constituency.

The Goromonzi West Football Youth League is divided into two groups of six teams, one from each of the constituency’s 12 districts.

It was goal harvesting in some of the matches played on Saturday as Godzamuto walloped Glen Forest 13-2 while Goalpost crushed Borrowdale Police by the same score line and Nyamande beating Sally Mugabe Heights 9-6.
