Special Olympics Zimbabwe in conjunction with the Lions Club have launched wellness and fitness clubs to promote healthy lifestyles amongst people living with disabilities.
The youngsters are benefitting from playing with professional partners and mentorship from seasoned sportspersons and volunteers in the communities without discrimination or stigmatisation.
Special Olympics Zimbabwe director Viola Musariri said the programme is targeting youngsters living with disabilities who for some reason do not partake in sporting activities.
The first club was held at Prince Edward School which hosted the first training camp and thereafter participants would be meeting twice weekly for Zumba classes and other sporting sessions.
Special Olympics Zimbabwe hopes to establish community clubs with assistance from international and local partners.
Special Olympics Zimbabwe is also seeking to train over 1 500 volunteers and participants under the programme.
