Society has been urged to spare a thought for inmates who often suffer neglect and are usually forgotten by their loved ones the moment they get locked up.
Faced with day to day loneliness and the feelings of exclusion and shame, life in prison can be very hard at times.
Speaking on behalf of the female inmates after receiving groceries and sanitary wear from a local women’s charity organisation, Chikurubi female prison officer in charge Mary Chikarakara Misihairambwi said the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS)’s doors are open to well wishers.
Today’s Kitchen and Home founder, Mary Chikarakara said the toiletries and sanitary ware donation to female inmates is part of the organisation’s initiative to embrace those regarded as outcasts in society.
Some female inmates, who are nursing mothers, require baby formulae and clothes for their little ones.
