spanish ambassador ferragut dies.jpgThe Spanish ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Pilar Fuertes Ferragut (pictured), has died.

The diplomat, who had just arrived for a holiday in Walvis Bay, Namibia, was involved in a road traffic accident.

Ms Fuertes Ferragut presented her letters of credence to the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe at State House in Harare on the 5th of March, 2009.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep shock and sadness at the untimely death of Ms Fuertes.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ambassador Joey Bimha said the Zimbabwe government worked closely with the late Ms Fuertes in the Zimbabwe–EU dialogue when Spain was President of the European Union which imposed illegal sanctions on the country for redistributing land.
