victoria_falls.jpg The Republic of Korea says it stands ready to give necessary assistance to Zimbabwe in its bid to host the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s General Assembly.

Republic of Korea Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Lew Kwang-chul said this at a dinner hosted by the Korean embassy to show solidarity with Zimbabwe in its desire to co-host the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly.

He said South Korea as host to this year’s UNWTO General Assembly will push Zimbabwe and Zambia’s bid by lobbying its neighbouring countries and friends to support the bid, adding that Zimbabwe should also mobilise more support from the African region to ensure an easy sail through of the bid.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Cde Walter Mzembi commended South Korea for being an all-weather friend, adding that the desire to host the UNWTO General Assembly has intensified with a delegation having already visited Spain to officially launch the bid end of last month.

If Zimbabwe’s bid is successful, Victoria Falls will host this global event where 186 countries are expected to attend.

Zimbabwe proposes to co-host the event with Zambia. Sources say SADC is backing the bid.
