Small scale miners have outpaced large corporations on gold deliveries by over 300 kilogrammes according to latest figures from Fidelity Printers and Refiners.
The small scale and artisanal mining sector continue to register positive sentiments as reflected by its strong performance in gold deliveries recorded over the last three months to August 2017.
Figures obtained from a report by Fidelity Printers and Refiners show that the sector has performed well when compared to primary producers.
The month of June accounted for 1 045 kilogrammes of the precious metal by small scale miners compared to 908 kilogrammes contributed by primary producers.
In July 1 127 kilogrammes were produced by small scale miners as compared to 963 kilogrammes by large corporations.
The latest data for the month of August shows further improvement by small scale miners with production coming off at 1 466 kilogrammes compared to the 1 109 kilogrammes produced by large corporations.
Such impressive strides are attributable to the massive financial support by government, according to the Zimbabwe Miners Federation chief executive officer Mr Wellington Takavarasha.
Illicit gold dealings have been a huge blow for the small scale miners with revelations that the sector could have lost 700 kilogrammes of the yellow metal to underhand dealings.
Going forward the industry is bullish of enhanced output by close of the year, setting an overall target of 12 tonnes.
