The Ministry of Industry and Commerce says the protection of the local industry through the introduction of the statutory instrument 64 (SI64) of 2016 has benefited the poultry industry.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce Cde Mike Bimha has toured a local poultry producer Irvine’s in Harare to assess the impact of the SI64 of 2016 on the local poultry producers.

In an interview after the tour, Cde Bimha said the government will look into challenges facing potential exporters and come up with policies that promote exports.

Irvine’s managing director Mr David Irvine’s said he has been facing challenging in acquiring exports permits thereby hampering his efforts in penetrating the export market.

He revealed that there is need to review maize prices to reduce cost of production.

The local poultry producer, Irvine’s is targeting the export market and has          contracted some farmers, a development that has benefited small scale poultry producers.
