The second stage of the Shield-Chelsea talent search programme today took place at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare with over 250 youngsters vying for a lifetime opportunity of flying to London, England and playing against Chelsea Football Club legends.

The initiative is sponsored by Unilever under the shield deodorant brand and will see one lucky Zimbabwean getting a once in a lifetime opportunity of flying to London.

Fifteen outstanding participants were selected to join another group of 15 players who were successful during the try-outs held in Bulawayo last month.

The 30-member squad will then go to a one-week boot camp session in July.

After the boot camp, three coaches from Chelsea will assess the players in Harare on the 25th and pick the final winner.

“The turnout in Harare is massive and we have had very successful trials. We were impressed by the levels of talent and enthusiasm we have seen here,” said Shield Brand Manager Susan Luneta.

One of the selectors KALISTO Pasuwa said; “We have received an overwhelming response with more than 250 participants and have selected 15 youngsters for the boot camp”.

The try-outs were open to anyone aged 18-25 years and one woman 20 year old Tariro Nyamakambo braved it out and competed with the guys.

“I was afraid at first being the only lady but gained confidence after the trials began,” said Nyakamambo.

Four local football coaches namely Cosmas ‘Tsano’ Zulu, Kalisto Pasuwa, Naison Muchekela and Alois Bunjira oversaw the selection process.
