The Chairman of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Climate, Water and Rural Resettlement, who is also Gokwe Nembudziya legislator, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena has emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge and global best practices in order to advance the sustainable development goal of zero hunger.
Cde Wadyajena was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the inaugural Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Global Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition underway in Madrid, Spain.
He stated that access to cheap inputs for the smallholder farmer is crucial in order to buy the agrarian economy.
Cde Wadyajena says food security is a national security issue and that parliament’s role is to align laws that promote smallholder growth and to safeguard the interests of the country’s farming communities.
Spanish Prime Minister Mr Pedro Sánchez officially opened the summit on Monday.
Zimbabwe is being represented by a delegation that comprises members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Climate, Water and Rural Resettlement led by the chairperson Cde Wadyajena.
