Linda Shaba and Emarald Mushore claimed pole position in the male and female categories of the Easter chess tournament held in the capital.

Mushore ended in first place despite stiff competition from Thabo Elisha and Zhemba Jemusse.

Mushore was in top form and put up a display which places him among the players to beat on the local chess scene.

In the ladies section, Shaba emerged as the top player after claiming pole position ahead of Roda, Masiyazi, Colletah Wakuruwarewa and Christine Makwena.

Shaba ended with 6 and a half points, half a point more than Masiyazi, Wakuruwarewa and Makwena who were pipped to pole position by half a point.

Juniors were also in action with Ryan Chigwengwe accruing 6 and a half points to scoop first place, despite top performances by Danmore Mashaya who ended in second place with 6 points.

In the veterans section, Shorai Ropi topped the standings with 5 and a half points.
