Seven people died while eleven were injured, five of them seriously when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in burst its rear tyre and overturned near Featherstone along the Harare-Masvingo highway.Five people died on the spot while two more died on admission at Chivhu General Hospital when the commuter omnibus overturned at Pimbi river in Featherstone.
Survivors of the accident said the driver lost control after the bus burst its rear tyre.
Chivhu acting Medical Superintendent, Dr Munhumeso Mawarire confirmed that seven injured people are admitted at Chivhu General Hospital while five people who were critically injured have been transferred to Harare Central Hospital.
The accident occurred just before seven oâ€™clock this Monday morning and the injured persons were ferried by well wishers to Chivhu hospital.
Acting Officer Commanding Chivhu district, Superintendent Maurice Mushawevato said police investigations are still underway, adding that preliminary investigations suggest that there was a mechanical fault but could not rule out human error.
He urged public transport users to be responsible and take charge when commuter omnibus drivers misbehave.
