Masvingo Minister of State Cde Josiah Hungwe has proposed the setting up of an independent agency to oversee the implementation phase of projects at the Tokwe Mukosi dam to ensure transparency.
The construction of the multi-million dam has been cited as key to the economic transformation story of Masvingo province.
For now the province awaits the implementation of the various projects that will be carried out around the dam.
These include laying of irrigation infrastructure as well as building of tourism infrastructure.
Cde Hungwe says setting up of an agency to oversee the implementation phase of the projects will ensure processes are carried out in a transparent way, thereby avoiding corruption.
“Let us set up and independent agency which will allocate stands for the development projects. You need an expert in that area. An agency will execute its duties professionally,” said Cde Hungwe.
Cde Hungwe expressed concern on the delays in the implementation phase of the project, saying it’s high time the nation started benefitting from the investment that was poured into the construction of the mega dam.
The Tokwe Mukosi dam was officially commissioned in May this year.
