The development of science and technology is the driving force for industrialisation in developing countries.
The sentiments came out at the launch of the 2017 African Capacity Building Foundation Report in Harare today.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Ambassador Machivenyika Mapuranga said despite a number of policies to promote science and technology, more still needs to be done in order to industrialise developing countries.
African Capacity Building Foundation Director, Dr Thomas Munthali said economic independence of nations can only be achieved if science and technology is embraced in all sectors.
The report expressed concern that a number of African countries have good policies to promote science and technology but implementation remains a challenge.
Training has also been cited as another key area that needs to be invested in order to increase the capacity of employees.
