Schools countrywide re-opened after a week of forced shutdown following disturbances organised and co-ordinated by the MDC Alliance and its affiliates.

A snap survey carried by the ZBC News in Harare this Monday revealed that schools were open with teachers conducting lessons.

However, in some schools, parents who preferred to talk to this news crew off camera were seen taking their children home before conducting lessons, citing fear for the safety of their children due to the messages circulating of social media.

Harare Provincial Education Director, Mr Christopher Kateera confirmed that most schools were open with 92 percent of teachers conducting lessons.

Last week Friday, the government urged parents to let their children return to school, guaranteeing their safety as all security measures have been put in place.
