stethoscope.jpgStudents have been urged to enhance research efforts in HIV and AIDS to enable the country to meet one of the Millennium Development Goals, which is to combat HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

The call to step up research in HIV and AIDS was made by the Principal Investigator for the Community Based Voluntary Counselling and Testing (CBVCT), M r. Alfred Chingondo during a handover ceremony of 3 vehicles, at the University of Zimbabwe School  of Medicine.

Speaking on the sidelines of the handover ceremony, Mr. Chingondo said students of medicine must work hard in their studies in order to obtain adequate knowledge to empower themselves and the nation at large.

The vehicles donated to the Psychiatric Department College of Health Science by CBVCT will facilitate research programmes by the students.

The country has made great strides in reducing the prevalence of HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases, but the lack of funding is hampering the contributions made by research institutions to date.
