michael-sata.jpgMicheal Sata of the Patriotic Front is now the new Zambian President after winning the elections with over 188 000 votes.

Mr Sata had 1 150 045 votes, while Mr Banda had 961 796 votes, constituting 31,1%.

Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Enerst Sakala declared Mr Sata the winner after results from 143 constituences were counted out of 150, while results from other seven constituences were still outstanding.

Chief Justice Sakala said even results from the other constituences had come, they could not enable Mr Banda to win the race.

Mr Sata, who is 74, was former Minister of Health, then Local Government before becoming the Minister of Home Affairs during the presidency of Cde Kenneth Kaunda.
