Political leaders in Bulawayo say the extension of illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe by the European Union is in violation of the provision of the Global Political Agreement which states that sanctions must be lifted.
The leaders said the removal of individuals and companies from the EU’s sanctions list is irrelevant as it has no impact on the national economy which is bleeding due to the illegal embargo.
Zanu-PF Politburo Member, Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu who was dropped from the sanctions list, told ZBC News that nothing short of a total removal of sanctions on the country by the EU will be accepted as a sincere gesture.
Professor Welshman Ncube of the MDC party said the issue of lifting of sanctions remains a disturbing aspect in the implementation of the GPA.
Professor Ncube said his party stands guided by the agreement of the GPA which states that sanctions must be lifted.
He said sanctions must be lifted unconditionally given their effects on the growth and development of the economy as well as service delivery.
In reference to the MDC-T leaders, Professor Ncube challenged them to be sincere on the national campaign for the lifting of the sanctions.
He said it was sad to note that while they spoke the same language with the MDC party on the lifting of the sanctions during the day, the situation changes during the night with MDC-T party lobbying for more sanctions on Zimbabwe.
