The atmosphere at the Rainbow Towers was filled with excitement as Samantha Tshuma of Bulawayo was crowned Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2010.The ceremony was very colourful and full of entertainment by artists who played all genres of music coupled with various traditional displays by the 24 contestants.
Samantha takes over from Vanessa Sibanda who had her last cat walk on the ramp as Miss Tourism Zimbabwe at the function. Samantha will represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Tourism World pageant.
The show was punctuated by music from various local artists who included Urban groove musicians. These include Madiz, Cindy, Stunner, Sani Mkhalima and Leonard Mapfumo, among others. They all put up a stunning performance.
Some of observers noted that the judges had an easier task in selecting the winner as most of the girls failed to answer simple questions relating to the countryâ€™s current affairs. During the question and answer session, most of the contestants failed to address issues to do with the improvement of the lives of women.
Like Miss Malaika, the objectives of Miss Tourism are to promote African Renaissance through culture and to celebrate Africanness through beauty and to provide Zimbabwean ladies with the opportunity to recognise the potential of their beauty.Â The Minister of Gender and Women Development Dr Olivia Muchena said, women have a major role to play in marketing the country.
The winner will among other duties be, an ambassador in marketing some of the countryâ€™s tourist attractions.Â
