Gilbert Saika has been re-elected as ZIFA Mashonaland Central chairperson during elections held in Bindura.
Saika trounced opponent Maxwell Pfumo by 19 votes to 2 out of the 21 councillors who cast their votes.
Saika promised to hit the ground running and called on the clubs to give him a hand in transforming soccer in the province.
“As I have said before I’m going ahead with my programmes, but I want to say that you gave me the mandate but I also need you so that we can lead together,” he said.
Clubs commended the voting system and are looking forward to developing under the elected leader.
Drama ensued after the announcement as the losing candidate demanded reimbursement of $30 he gave councillors prior to the election.
Saika has been hailed for slashing club affiliation fees and affording the clubs payment plans and setting up a junior league which runs concurrently with the Division 2 League and set up structures to oversee women’s football.
The rest of the board members will be nominated by the chairperson.
