general chiwenga 30-08-10.jpgThe SADC Defence Inspectorate Working Group has been urged to maintain and ensure that it remains an integrated regional mechanism designed to monitor, evaluate and verify the deployment of the SADC standby force.

Officially opening the SADC Defence Inspectorate Working Group meeting being held in Harare, the  Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Chiwenga said its formation should see massive improvements in the operations and proficiency of the military component of the SADC Standby Force.

“I therefore urge you to maintain your vision and to ensure that you remain an integrated regional mechanism monitor. Remember that you are an objective and independent extension of the SADC and you are there to protect and safeguard the continent,” said General Chiwenga.

General Chiwenga updated the SADC Inspectorate on the current developments in the country which include the inclusive government, constitution making process and the indigenisation and empowerment drive.

He commended the efforts that are being made by SADC countries in ensuring that there is peace and tranquility in the region.

The meeting will see Zimbabwe taking over the chairmanship of the Defence Inspectorate Working Group from Angola.
