Russia says it is ready to advance bilateral relations with Zimbabwe and bring investment into the country.

Speaking at the commemorations of the Day of Russia in Harare, the Russian Federation Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Andrey Kushkov said his country is looking at expanding its investment drive in different areas such as mining, industry and commerce.

“The two countries’ relations are very important and Russia will work to bring in investment in many areas as bilateral relations have been very good,” mr Kushkov said.

The Day of Russia is held on June 12 and has been celebrated since 1994 after the First Congress of People’s Deputies of the Russian Federation adopted the Declaration on Russia’s National Sovereignty.

Zimbabwe’s relations with Russia date back to the days of the liberation struggle and after independence.

Russia also used its veto power in the UN to prevent the imposition of sanctions on Zimbabwe.
