vp mujuru russia ambassador 30 june 2011.jpgRussia has pledged to continue supporting Zimbabwe to bust illegal sanctions imposed by Western Nations.

Russian Federation Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Andrey Kushakov, who paid a courtesy call on Acting President Joice Mujuru at her Munhumutapa Offices, reiterated his country’s principled position on Zimbabwe.

Mr. Kushakov was the first among other ambassadors to meet Acting President Mujuru at her Munhumutapa offices in Harare.

He said as a matter of principle, Russia will always support Zimbabwe against the illegal sanctions imposed by the West.

Ambassador Kushakov who has been in Zimbabwe since March this year said his meeting with Acting President Mujuru also saw lots of discussions on bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the increased interest by Russian companies to invest in Zimbabwe.

Vice President Mujuru welcomed Ambassador Kushakov to Zimbabwe and said Russia has for many years been Zimbabwe’s friend, both on the political and economic front, adding that such friendship should be consolidated to greater heights.

Second to pay a courtesy call on Acting President Mujuru was the Republic of Korea Ambassador, Mr. Lew Kwang-Chul.

Mr. Chul said his meeting with Cde Mujuru touched on issues such as expanding existing bilateral relations.

Russia has always stood by Zimbabwe defending the country on various international fora.

Russia and China blocked some Western countries’ attempts to have Zimbabwe slapped with UN sanctions.
