The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has raised concerns over the increased cases of armed robberies in Manicaland particularly in Rusape.
In the past week alone Rusape has recorded an increased number of armed robbery cases, with four cases of victims who were attacked in their homes at gunpoint being reported.
The robbers are said to be mostly targeting women.
It is suspected that the robbers stole household property and cash. ZRP Manicaland spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed some of the cases.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned by robbery cases that are occurring in the province particularly areas around Rusape and Mutare. Armed robbers pounced on unsuspecting residents threatening with knives or holding them at gun point before getting away with their property. As police we take this opportunity to urge the general public to be on high alert and put safety measures before they retire to bed,” he said.
The robbers are said to be attacking during the night.
The police have urged those who might have information concerning these cases to contact their nearest police stations.
