Two RioZim senior employees, Emmerson Mungwariri and Jeriphanos Tondori, who are facing charges of fraud in a coal scam, have heard their application for discharge thrown out.

Harare magistrate, Mr Morgan Nemadire however acquitted an alleged accomplice, Godfrey Nyakudya.

According to state papers, Mungwariri and Tondori misrepresented to RioZim that their company, Chaferfly Enterprises, had supplied more than 2400 tonnes of washed coal peas to RioZim yet the consignment was supplied by another company.

The duo is alleged to have caused RioZim to act upon the misrepresentation and deposited more than US$364 000 into the account of the accused’s company.

The scam was unearthed after the company that supplied the coal was making follow ups on why they were delays in payment of the consignment.

The trial will continue on the 12th of January next when the two accused will be put to their defence.
