One of Zimbabwe’s popular horse race, the Republican Cup, returns to the track this Sunday at the Borrowdale Park race course with 8 races set to be contested.
The horse race, organised to benefit charity groups is being bankrolled by Catercraft, the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe and the national career, Air Zimbabwe, FBC, Killem, ZOL-Fibroniks and Centre for Global Dialogue and Cooperation, with a prize money of US$40 000.
The US$40 000 Republic Cup (Gr3) – final leg of the Borrowdale Park’s “big three” has the makings of a competitive race with several of the contestants having taken part in the Castle Tankard and OK Grand challenge races.
But as horse racing continue to its getting unpredictable with each day Comanche Brave who won the US$50 000 Castle Tankard but disappointed in the US$40 000 OK Grand challenge a month later will Saturday see his supporters expecting the Amy Bronkhorst’s charge to make amends.
The line up for the Republican Cup also features Bridget Stidolph trained Royal Honour, the winner of the OK Grand challenge, Ashton Park and Lava Flow representing Penny Fisher stables, while Kirk Swanson has runners Windigo, Cool Solution, Fah Fee and Light the Way, a newcomer to Borrowdale Park.
The 2016 Republic Cup was won by Mathematician.
Morgan Nyamagwete was in the irons, and he teams up with Fah Fee tomorrow.
