A mortuary with capacity to hold 10 bodies has been officially opened at Kana Mission Hospital in Gokwe.
For years, the people of Gokwe have been forced to bury their deceased relatives hastily and with less regard to formalities as there was not even a single mortuary to keep several bodies.
Others would resort to traditional ways of preserving the body which was not always effective.
The official opening of the new mortuary has brought not only relief but equally so, local economic development as the community pooled resources together before the Minister of State for Midlands Province, Cde Owen Ncube chipped.
Cde Ncube, who officially opened the mortuary, said lack of proper facilities for the storage of deceased persons was causing a nightmare for the Kana community.
In another development, the community also commended Cde Ncube for donating materials for the rehabilitation of interior Kana Bridge which links Gokwe Kana with Nkayi and Lupane in Matabeleland North Povince.
Farmers said they can now ferry their produce to the other province without much hindrance.
Later on, Cde Ncube donated building materials worth $10 000 for the construction of an ECD classroom block at Mateme primary school.
