zdf logo 2.pngThe Zimbabwe Defence Forces target to complete all demining activities by 2013 has received a lifeline after the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) committed itself to providing training and new equipment.

The ZDF has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ICRC which will see the provision of training and equipment in the demining exercise.

Addressing a delegation of the ICRC at the signing ceremony, Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa who was represented by the Secretary of Defence, Mr. Martin Rushwaya, said the partnership between the two parties is expected to boost the demining exercise and achieve the target of finishing the project by 2013.

The head of regional delegation of the ICRC, Mr. Pascal Cuttat, said the partnership is aimed at clearing all landmines in Zimbabwe and ensuring that the land is used for the benefit of communities.
