disability.jpgPeople living with disabilities have called on the government to honour its obligation of including them in national development programmes such as the indigenisation and national empowerment programme.

People living with disabilities say they have not been included in key economic programmes such as the indigenisation and economic empowerment drive.

President of the National Council of Disabled Persons of Zimbabwe, Mrs Farai Cherera challenged relevant ministries to give physically challenged people equal opportunities in national development issues.

“People living with disabilities need to be part of these national programmes. Indigenisation and economic empowerment should not just be limited to those who are able bodied, but should also uplift the disabled’s living standards,” she said.

Zimbabwe is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People and will join the rest of the world in commemorating the International Day of the Disabled on the 3rd of December.
