The Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry has come up with provincial women in tourism chapters to provide a voice on behalf of women on tourism related issues.
The ministry conducted several workshops across the country targeted at women with interest in tourism and were taken through frameworks put in place at national and global level to promote their cause in the sector where they constitute 49 percent of the total workforce in hotels and restaurants worldwide.
The highly subscribed provincial workshop held in Chinhoyi ended with the constitution of an 8-member provincial tourism chapter, chaired by businesswoman Idah Kamushinda.
Acting Deputy Director in the Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Ministry Mrs Gladys Chinyerere said there are many funding facilities available for women with an interest in tourism.
The provincial and national women in tourism chapters are expected to speak with one voice and be able to engage policy makers at a higher level on tourism issues, especially those regarding women.
