Provincial liberation hero, Cde Taurayi Dereck Sachiti, who died last Saturday has been laid to rest at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre at Warren Hills cemetery.

Friends, relatives and workmates chronicled Cde Sachiti’s enormous contribution towards the liberation of Zimbabwe.

Representing Harare Metropolitan Provincial Minister of State, Cde Miriam Chikukwa, Deputy Director in her office, Mr Ignatius Mungure described the late Cde Sachiti as a loyal carder who worked for his country until his time of death.

Cde Sachiti, whose Chimurenga name was Manesi Rumbidzai Hondo joined the liberation struggle in 1965 in Mozambique and received military training at Takawira 2 Chimoio camp in 1977. 

He rose to the position of Platoon Commander, which he held from 1978 to 1980.

At independence, Cde Sachiti was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) before retiring to become an active member of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association in Marondera District.

He worked at moonlight funeral assurance until his untimely death.

He is survived by wife, Rosemary Sachiti, 3 children and 3 grand children.
