Addressing delegates at a conference on Environmental Accounting and Sustainability for finance professionals and decision makers in Harare, Cde Nhema said financial professionals should promote environmental accountability in order to attract foreign investors.

“CENAC [Centre for Environment Accountability] and the Ministry of Environment are working together to promote reporting of environment issues. This attracts investment from foreign investors hence financial professionals must actively participate in environment accountability disclosure,” said Cde Nhema.

Executive Director of the Centre for Environment Accountability, Mr Rodney Ndamba, said financial professionals should offer detailed information concerning the environment in order for companies to make informed decisions on their budgets concerning the environment and the risks associated with disaster.

“Financial professionals must play a role in environment accountability for sustainable development in order to promote sustainable use of natural resources,” said Mr Ndamba.

The centre was established in March 2010 in order to raise awareness on environmental issues amongst financial professionals.
