jacob-zuma101.jpgSouth African President Jacob Zuma has called for an immediate end to the illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe, saying the sanctions only serve to fragment the inclusive government.

Speaking to journalists soon after arriving in the United Kingdom for a three-day state visit, President Zuma fulfilled his pledge to tell the British to lift the sanctions.

He said their view is that the unity government should be supported so that it can get out of the difficulties that face Zimbabwe.

President Zuma disagreed with the view that sanctions are a viable tool saying it would be difficult for Zimbabwe, to deal with other matters attendant to the global political agreement as long as the discredited embargo subsisted.

He said no one should expect Zimbabwe to progress if members of the inclusive government are subject to different levels of engagement.

The South African leader will meet Queen Elizabeth the second  and Prince Phillip in addition to addressing the British parliament.
