mugabe.jpgThe Head of State and Government and Commander In Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe has officially opened the third African Ministers of Youths Conference in the resort town of Victoria Falls.

 

Cde Mugabe called on African youths to jealously guard the sovereignty of the continent by giving voluntary service for the development of their communities.

He said African youths should uphold the vision, hopes and aspirations of the African Union.The President also said the young people of the continent need jobs and access to resources such as land, minerals and capital, for them to meaningfully participate in economic and governance issues.

 

 

He added that poverty, unemployment and HIV and Aids are some of the drawbacks to youths programmes on the African continent.

The President emphasised the need for African youths to follow the footsteps of the likes of the late Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Leopold Sengo of Senegal who were the founding fathers of the Organisation of African Unity.

 

The conference, which is being attended by several youths Ministers from across the continent, has seen 19 countries including Zimbabwe, signing and ratifying the African Youth Charter.
