President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conveyed his message of condolences to the Rushwaya family following the death of Mbuya Mary Ganyani Rushwaya, mother to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and War Veterans Mr Martin Rushwaya.
Mbuya Rushwaya succumbed to pneumonia Thursday (yesterday) at Avenues Clinic in Harare after being hospitalised for three months.
She was 82 and is survived by four children and several grandchildren.
A church service for Mbuya Rushwaya will be held at One Commando Barracks in the capital tomorrow before her body is taken to Gweru.
Born in 1937 in Zvishavane’s Mapanzure village, Mbuya Rushwaya spent 42 years as a teacher in Zvishavane and Gweru.
Addressing mourners in Glen Lorne, President Mnangagwa described Mbuya Rushwaya as a kind, cheerful and prayerful woman who cared for society.
He called on those gathered to emulate her prayerful ways and dedication to duty and to be upright at all times as no one knows the day or hour when they will be called.
The President also urged the younger generation to take care of their elderly.
The body will be returned to Harare on Sunday where it will also lie in state and burial will be on Monday at Glen Forest Cemetery at 12pm.
The two Vice Presidents Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi as well as Minister of Defence and War Veterans Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and service chiefs were among the mourners.
