president police team.pngZimbabwe’s victorious police team from the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Corporation (SARPCCO) games had a historic welcome reception from the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe at Morris Depot this Thursday.

An amazing feat by the police team in the Democratic Republic of Congo that yielded 55 medals, 19 of them gold and another regional title as the Southern African police sports champions was the story celebrated at the police club in Harare this Thursday.

Cde Mugabe hailed the team’s performance and the commitment by the several sponsors that reflects the ZRP’s nature of being a people’s force and encouraged the team to remain resolute in future preparations to ensure continued success.


“Sponsors of the ZRP come from all walks of life and this is not surprising since the police force is the people’s police force. Some will say why don’t you (the team) give others a chance to win, but no, sport is not an area of generosity or christianity, you just have to win,” said President Mugabe.

In light of their victory the President questioned why the some of the police athletes were not spotted for the country squad for the All Africa Games in Maputo where Zimbabwe is faltering particularly in the men section.

police team.pngSergeant Trust Chidomaya was Team Zimbabwe best male athlete with a record 8 medals, 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, while Constable Patience Magwada emerged the best female athlete with 3 gold and silver.

The two received the biggest prizes of an air ticket and 4 nights in Dubai each while all other winning athletes were officially presented their medals and prizes.

Zimbabwe successfully defended their title and hauled 55 medals.


Namibia was second with 30 medals.
